Living where people take vacations: 26 years in Florida
Living in Florida means walking on the beach after work and jumping in the pool in January. It also means real heat, real work, and wearing a jacket when it drops below 70 degrees. It is not a vacation. It is home, and I love it.
What is it like to live where others take vacations?
Many people call it a vacation town. We call it home. I grew up in Costa Rica, another place people dream to visit. So I have lived in two places people wish they could live.
Is it really paradise?
Yes and no. We work like everyone else. We do not spend the summer at the beach, because it is too hot. We wear a jacket when it goes below 70 degrees. When I show homes in summer, I drink a lot of water.
But we do have the luxury of a walk on the beach after a hard day, the pool in January, and fresh fish for dinner any time.
What changed in 26 years?
The whole Treasure Coast, and South Florida too, has changed so much! It has grown. More people decided to come live here, because of the cost of living in other states and because of the Florida way of life. I believe the laws and policies make a difference too.
Even so, it still feels like home here, with a small-town feel. People are polite, they say hello, and they help each other.
How does my work fit this life?
Real estate takes me all around town. I meet new people all the time and help them with their next step: a first home, a bigger or smaller home, moving to retire in another area, or investing their savings. In 2017 I wrote that every person I met in 12 years was unique. Now it is 21 years, and it is still true.
Then and now
I wrote "Florida Summer" in June 2017. Still home, still grateful.
Questions people ask
Is it hot all year in Florida?
Summers are very hot. Winters are mild, and many days are perfect.
Do you help people move to Florida from other countries?
Yes, in English or Spanish, and I work with Realtors I trust around the world.
They have a dream, and I help make it happen. I'm happy to help you. Just let me know.
